Excerpts Adapted from the Birds of Saskatchewan:

Although still common and widespread in much of western Canada and a familiar sight in urban and rural areas alike, the Brewer's Blackbird is declining across its range. Primarily a western bird, it is found from southwest Northwest Territories to the Great Lakes, and south to northern Baja California; it winters from central British Columbia and South Carolina to south-central Mexico.

The Brewer's Blackbird nests in the hedgerows and shelterbelts of farmyards, towns, and villages. Native habitats include trees and shrubs along shorelines or watercourses, and patches of snowberry or rose in native pasture. It forages in pastureland, especially in association with livestock; in recently plowed fields; along roadsides accompanied by Brown-headed Cowbirds; and rarely at bird feeders.

Brewer's Blackbird is a common summer resident across southern Saskatchewan (Smith 1996). They arrive in early to mid-April and by the end of the month are widely distributed across the southern half of the province. Will rarely attempt to overwinter, usually at feedlots.
