Excerpts Adapted from the Birds of Saskatchewan:
This oriole truly is one of our most vociferous and colourful birds. Baltimore Orioles breed from west-central British Columbia and the Maritimes south to Louisiana and winter in Florida, Central America, the West Indies and northern South America. Baltimore and Bullock's interbred where their ranges overlapped (mainly in the Great Plains)
This species prefers smaller stands of mature deciduous trees in the transitional forest, woodlots and other forest fragments in the forest fringe, aspen groves in the parklands and riparian woodlands, wooded coulees or farmyards in the grasslands (Smith1996).
"The Baltimore Oriole is a common summer resident throughout Saskatchewan north to and including the Transition Forest Subregion, and uncommon in the rest of the Southern Boreal Region north to Kazan Lake and Cumberland House? (Smith 1996). This bird took advantage of environmental changes due to prairie settlement. Formerly restricted to wooded coulees, river valleys, and lakeshores, it spread out across the prairies as farm and village plantations matured.
